Yeah, you're completely right. Today is 17th of March, that's why we're celebrating St Patrick's Day, the patron saint of Ireland.

Saint Patrick's Day is a public holiday in Ireland, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand, and as you have watched in the United States.
 

^{Saint Patrick lived in the fourth century, he was born into a rich family. At the age of 16, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken captive to Ireland as a slave. He could escape and returned to Britain, becoming a priest then. In 432, he was already a bishop and decided to go back to Ireland where he made use of a shamrock to teach the doctrine of the Trinity to Irish people. After nearly thirty years of evangelism, he died on 17 March 461.}
