Jornada Gastronómica

Last Friday 16th December, teachers and pupils gathered in Room 210 at about six o'clock of a windy evening to celebrate another successful "Jornada Gastronómica" at the EOI Béjar. It's rewarding how talented pupils are, and the enthusiasm all of them showed in the preparation of different dishes and desserts from the most relevant gastronomy of some English and French-speaking countries. We tasted cous-cous, pastries, apple and pear pies, trifle, brownies, tiramisu, lemon cream ... just to name a few. We could drink a wide variety of soft drinks and obviously we couldn't fail to include the typical English tea. We really had a good time together, chatting and listening to some Christmas songs.
Everything was right, even the raffle at the end, where all the levels taught at  school were represented by the winners.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU
AND THANKS FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!

A Tribute to Freddie Mercury

20th ANNIVERSARY OF FREDDIE MERCURY’S DEATH
by Jose
20 years ago, on the 24th of November of 1991, Freddie Mercury died. He was one of the most famous singers and his death was mourned worldwide.
Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar (Tanzania) on the 5th of September of 1946 and his real name was Farookh Bulsara. His parents Bomi and Jer Bulsara sent him to India where he attended St. Peter’s boarding school. He was keen on music since he was a child, starting his piano lessons at the age of seven.
Freddie and his family moved to Middlesex (England) in 1964. During the next years he studied graphic design at Ealing College of Art. While he was studying he met Brian May and Roger Taylor, who formed a band called Smile. Immediately after Freddie had joined them the band’s name turned into Queen.
Freddie Mercury also had his own career apart from Queen’s; he appeared in musicals and recorded albums as a solo artist. In 1985, he sang with Montserrat Caballé the song of Barcelona’s Olympic Games, making one of his dreams come true.
Here you have Freddie’s dream, it is the video of the song Barcelona, which all of you already know. As you can see in the video, Freddie was very fond of opera too, and of course he had a marvellous voice that let him sing whatever music style you can imagine.
I also attached a Queen well-known song, The Miracle, whose message is still alive.

I also attached the lyrics

Write about it!

Write about your interests and how they started. Try to use the expressions we have learnt in class.
 Example

I really got into cars a few months ago. It started when I decided that it was high time for me to buy a car. I saved up some money and guess what ... I bought a second-hand car !!! The nice thing about it is, I don't depend on buses and timetables any more. For me, time is important.
