Every fifth of November is celebrated Guy Fawkes' Night. English people commemorate the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot. In 1605, Guy Fawkes and some of his fellows tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament but ... what for?
If you want to find out more about this plot and the festival, watch this video.
Did you understand? Had you heard about this festival before? I really hope you had enjoyed yourselves and learnt a little bit!!!
I couldn´t see the video from my PC. But I have been reading about Guy fawkes , I didn´t know his history although I have just seen his face that seems as a masc.
ResponderEliminarSurprised.
ResponderEliminarI'm really surprised, because I had never heard of this celebration.
Nor had I heard of such a conspiracy against King James I.
And with regard to today's celebration ... I think it has led to eat, drink and fireworks. As we have done in Spain.
It reminds me of the Christmas celebration. Currently, there is only one religious event in which families gather to eat, drink and be together, that Jesus was born on that day ... nobody cares anymore. Starting with me, of course.
I'm happy that you have learnt something new with this blog. It's true everybody celebrates festival eating and drinking and if we are lucky enough we even have fireworks. By the way, you should care for Christmas. ;)
EliminarI had never heard about this story and its celebration, but you never go to the bed without learn one new thing !!!!!!!!, Mr Guy Fawkes and his followers wanted to blow up the Parlamient, but one of his followers sent a car to warning the politicians, then they couldn't blow up and killed the man who sent the warning. Always people need a special story to make a party and stay a day enjoying drinking, dancing around of fire.
ResponderEliminarI like this party
Exciting but hard history!
ResponderEliminarIt could be a excellent plot for a movie.
Hi, Did you know that Guy Fawkes was enrolled in the Spanish army in the Netherlands?
ResponderEliminarAlso, Guy Fawkes inspired "V" comic by Alan Moore because of his rebellion against the government
No, I didn't know that. I'm not very keen on comic but thanks a lot for the information. Keep blogging!
EliminarBefore watching the video, I remembered to hear this story when I was a child, in my English lessons at school, although I didn't remember the story. When the video was playing I've started to remember some details, for example the trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament and the celebration with fireworks.

I think that this celebration is similar our celebration of San Juan, which we celebrate in March. In Valencia, some groups of person burn figures in big bonfires with fireworks.
